What is it?
Online review sites like Yelp, Google, Angie’s List, TripAdvisor, etc are a preferred way to shop for a product, service, experience, etc. These sites let people review a business and talk about their experience. The technology might be new, but the concept is simple; people rely on reviews or referrals when making decisions.
Why should I care?
Your reputation speaks volumes about your business. Small businesses can gain an advantage over competitors and even large corporations if they have an army of customers raving about their experiences online. Bob’s Burgers probably doesn’t have an enormous marketing budget like McDonald’s but if they have 350 5-star reviews on Yelp or Google, they will attract more attention and get more customers.
How does it work?
Customers leave reviews online about your business. People tend to leave reviews when they’ve had a great experience or a terrible one. The best way to maximize your positive reviews is to (of course) deliver a great experience, but you can also be proactive and reach out to your loyal, enthusiastic customers personally, or by creating an email list and sending an email asking for reviews.
